Expiry date (trademark)

The end date of a trademark registration, after which protection lapses unless the mark is renewed.

A trademark registration is granted for a fixed term — typically ten years from the registration date — and can be renewed indefinitely as long as the mark remains in use and the renewal fees are paid. A missed renewal makes the mark lapse, and after any grace period the sign becomes available for others to use or register. Unlike patents, a trademark expiry date is therefore not an end-of-life: it is a recurring renewal deadline.
